Buckhead was once an outlying trading post that joined the city in 1952.
It quickly became Atlanta's premier shopping and dining area as well as
its most fashionable living quarters. The Atlanta History Center, Swan
House, and Alice Tully House, as well as numerous galleries and antique shops
are all located here. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza shopping centers are
in this part of town.

Emory, Druid Hills & Decatur

The Emory neighborhood is a beautiful part of Atlanta located on the northeast
part of town and is the home of the Emory University Complex, which includes the
university, Emory Hospital, the Emory Clinics, and the Carlos Museum. The
national Centers for Disease Control are also located nearby.
The Druid Hills neighborhood is another
historic Atlanta area that is located adjacent to Emory. It is a community of
grand homes and expansive lawns. Home styles include Mediterranean, Dutch
revival, Colonial, and contemporary. The Fernbank Natural History Museum is
located here as well as a number of beautiful, natural looking parks designed by
famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, the designer of Central Park
in New York.
The East Lake community is a
very historic part of the city with attractions that include the East Lake
Country Club. Many old homes have been restored and the community has its own
train station that is part of the MARTA system.

Inman Park & Candler Park

The Inman Park community was Atlanta's first trolly line suburb, established in
the mid to late 19th century. It is an area of fine true Victorian and Craftsman
style homes that have all been restored and painted bright colors. There
are numerous parks throughout the neighborhood and a train station near the
center of the community. The historic retail area called Little Five
Points is adjacent to Inman Park and is one of the more colorful of Atlanta's
shopping districts.
The Candler Park neighborhood is another
dynamic part of Atlanta on the northeast part of town which was named after its
historic park. This park provides many pleasures for area residents including
golf, swimming, bike trails and tennis. The Park was named after the founder of
the Coca Cola Company, Asa Griggs Candler.
