Buckhead was once an outlying trading post that joined the city in 1952.
It quickly became Atlanta's premier shopping and dining area as well as
its most fashionable living quarters. The Atlanta History Center, Swan
House, and Alice Tully House, as well as numerous galleries and antique shops
are all located here. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza shopping centers are
in this part of town.
The Emory neighborhood is a beautiful part of Atlanta located on the northeast
part of town and is the home of the Emory University Complex, which includes the
university, Emory Hospital, the Emory Clinics, and the Carlos Museum. The
national Centers for Disease Control are also located nearby.
The Druid Hills neighborhood is another
historic Atlanta area that is located adjacent to Emory. It is a community of
grand homes and expansive lawns. Home styles include Mediterranean, Dutch
revival, Colonial, and contemporary. The Fernbank Natural History Museum is
located here as well as a number of beautiful, natural looking parks designed by
famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, the designer of Central Park
in New York.

The Inman Park community was Atlanta's first trolly line suburb, established in
the mid to late 19th century. It is an area of fine true Victorian and Craftsman
style homes that have all been restored and painted bright colors. There
are numerous parks throughout the neighborhood and a train station near the
center of the community. The historic retail area called Little Five
Points is adjacent to Inman Park and is one of the more colorful of Atlanta's
shopping districts.
The Candler Park neighborhood is another
dynamic part of Atlanta on the northeast part of town which was named after its
historic park. This park provides many pleasures for area residents including
golf, swimming, bike trails and tennis. The Park was named after the founder of
the Coca Cola Company, Asa Griggs Candler.
The Midtown part of Atlanta is truly one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in
the city at this time. Its combination of historic houses and retail
establishments, and highrise hotels, offices, apartments and condos, as well as
its theatres and night-life, make it one of the very few true urban
neighborhoods in the city. The Margaret MItchell House is open to the
public and is located in the center of the community. The High Museum of
Art as well as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Alliance Theatre and
Atlanta Opera all are located here.
Ansley Park is located between Midtown and Buckhead and is an absolutely
beautiful community laid out around 1900. Its fine homes and lovely parks make
it one of Atlanta's most desirable neighborhoods. Ansley Park is adjacent
to Atlanta's theatre district on Peachtree Street. It also joins historic
Piedmont Park, which houses the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, tennis courts, bike
trails, and a large lake.
The Carter Presidential Center lies between Inman
Park and the Virginia-Highland neighborhoods. Virginia-Highland is a
wonderful part of town that started developing in the late 1890's. Its
mixture of historic old renovated houses in many different styles and unique
storefronts make it one of Atlanta's most desirable areas.
